As I said in my Writers' post, Autumn is Coming! Now is the time to review your speaking business. Groups are currently creating their schedules for the coming year. They are looking for speakers just like YOU! Take time this month to update your marketing materials, your presentation descriptions (make them timely to show your professionalism) and your website. No website? Get busy! Groups can check your site quickly to make a preliminary decision on hiring you. Be sure to have audio samples on your site and even video if you are able. Send out some promotional materials to groups and make some phone calls. Don't like doing that? Then consider working with a Speakers Bureau. They will handle all the contact with potential groups for you for a fee. this fee comes from your speaking fee so there is no out of pocket.
Take time this month to review your speaking business and set goals for the coming year or you will be sitting in the audience again this year!

Tricia, good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone to bless others! What groups did you speak to in Albuquerque and what topics do you speak on?

Hello everyone!
Speaking publicly makes my stomach queasy, but I've had wonderful opportunities this past year (2008) to practice my speaking skills. I spoke to a MOPS group in Redford (MI), and 3 different groups of women in Albuquerque (NM) over a 4 week period July-August. I found that speaking isn't all that hard when you know your topic! To help calm myself, I wrote notes to myself and rehersed mentally. When it came time to talk, I knew what I wanted to say and wound up having a blast! I'm looking forward to setting up some more speaking engagements this year. I love to talk to women and especially moms. Here's to a wonderful year for us all!

I had to take a hiatus this past year and it got me so bummed out. I love to speak. I am so excited I already have a speaking engagement for March...keynote speaking a whole weekend. I am SO looking forward to stretching my chops again. lol

I'm speaking at St Andrews Place on the 22nd. It is a private assisted living complex. I'm speaking on preserving family memories. I will return at a later date to do some actual hands on memory preservation exercises.

I'm speaking to a group of high school kids next week, which should be fun. I was scheduled to speak just before Christmas (but a snow day cancelled me), so I've got a bunch of candy canes to hand out in case I start to bore them. Wish me luck.

Be sure to add your speaking events to our event schedule so all the Divas can see what is going on. We want the Divas to support one another.

I just got invited to do the keynote in Feb. for a small group of business women on the importance of building relationships and networking. Great topic. I'm looking forward to doing it.

So far I'm slated to speak in three states in 2009. Would love to add events. Is this my year to speak internationally again?
