Welcome Chandra and blessings to you in 2009. Thank you for all you do on behalf of women's health, especially for your upcoming documentary on heart health and obesity! Congratulations on that great endeavor.

My Bio

Dr. Chandra A. Henry attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia on full scholarship through the NASA-sponsored Women in Science and Engineering Program, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. From there, she attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned the Doctorate of Medicine. During that time she was awarded the National Health Corps Scholarship. She chose the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology and completed an internship and residency at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Following her training, Dr. Henry relocated to Central Florida, where she was an attending staff physician and Vice-Chief of the Maternal Child Division at Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Florida. She recently moved to Jacksonville Florida, and is on staff currently as a hospitalist for emergency and unregistered patients with obstetric and gynecologic concerns at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

The American Medical Association, National Medical Association, American Women’s Medical Association, the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, and the Association of Black Women Physicians recognize Dr. Henry as a member. She has received honors from the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons as well as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She specializes in minimally-invasive surgery and has a special clinical interest in patients who are diagnosed with infertility.

Dr. Henry founded the Ruby-Ellis Foundation, Inc. while in residency. Originally a research-based organization created to investigate disparities in healthcare, the company mission has expanded to address the need for grass-roots education on common health issues pertaining to women. To this end, she produces Public Service Announcements and provides guest lectures at no charge on women's health issues. She is in the process of producing a documentary on the obesity epidemic in African-American women and has spoken for the American Heart Association and participates in the Spirit of Women Campaign.
