Sorry I didn't reply back to you sooner, but I didn't notice until now that you had emailed me. I guess I need to check around on the site more often.
Thanks for your kind words about my site. My husband set it up for me, and I haven't learned hoiw to update it yet. I need to do a bit more work on it.
As to how I got started--I began by writing articles. I wrote about mental health (since I'm a psychologist), and also about my kids (short, inspirational articles, parenting, etc.). Getting some publishing credits made it easier for me to be taken seriously by publishers when it came time to pitch a book idea. I found that short articles sell better than the longer, feature articles, and also the religious market seemed more open. They don't pay as well (usually), but it does seem easier to get published there.
